R770 1.6 Times Faster than RV670

Last summer I was disappointed in ATI’s R600 products and I (an ATI fan) thought it might be a good time to try out NVIDIA’s 8800 GT. Maybe that wasn’t a good idea after all. Although the price was decent enough, that card can’t really handle 1080 resolutions in the latest games with HQ settings. For the same price I can now get an HD 3870, but what’s the use when the R700 are just around the corner?

This summer, ATI won’t screw things again, hopefully. At least all the facts seem to point out that the R700 will be worth the waiting. According to Fudzilla, ATI's new chip is most likely to end up 1.5 to 1.6 times faster than the current RV670 solution. Presumably, the dual-GPU solution would practically be more than 2 times faster.

Theoretically speaking, if the current RV670 is able to pull 50FPS in one game, the new chip should net you 75FPS at the same settings. This means that the R700 family must be at least 30 percent faster than the old one to make us consider the upgrade, but all the known specifications seem to ensure all that.

R770 is also rumored to be getting a 512bit memory controller once again, and that alone can guarantee that NVIDIA is up for some serious competition this summer.
