Desktop Vs Laptop
Published by dipti, on September 12th, 2011, in the categories: Purchasing tips

We all know that this is a century of technology and inventions and we are faced with difficult choices while selecting the most suitable technology in computers or any other gadget for that matter. A major dilemma is faced when deciding desktop Vs Laptop.
If we talk about the computer system, we know that after every 6 months we would find some new features added to the same configuration or operating system. So the question is whether one should go for Desktop or Laptop?” but as we all know that the laptops are the new craze among youngsters for many reasons but we can’t make any decision just on this basis. There are some benefits and drawbacks for choosing Desktop or Laptop and in this article we are going to highlight them in brief.
The first good point about laptop is its portability. You can take it to your office, college, seminars etc but this facility is not associated with desktop as it is a combination of monitor, CPU, keyboard, Mouse and UPS and carrying all these things is not possible. However, portability of laptop also makes it susceptible to theft and other security issues. So one has to carry laptop with care or else the data may get lost.
Another drawback of Laptop is related to its parts, which means if there is some problem in your laptop then you have to take it to the manufacturer’s service center for repair. And if it’s not in warranty replacement of parts might become too expensive. However, in case of a desktop, even if the parts are of a different brand or manufacturing, it assimilates with the system. Also, if you are giving your laptop for repair chances are that the repair shop steals other original parts of your system and also tampers with the data. However, in case of the desktop, generally the service person replaces the parts in your presence and chances of theft or tampering is reduced.
Another drawback of laptop is that it is more expensive than desktop. You can even think for getting assembled desktop within your budget but you can not get one assembled laptop, you have to purchase it as a complete set from the showroom. Desktop is suitable for people who do not need to carry their system out for work. It is quite suitable for home based work, and household stuff. However, if you have your own business and need to carry work related data to customers or other places then having a laptop is mandatory.
Laptop is portable and can be carried easily but it has its own set of problems. Suppose you forget your login password then the only option left with you is take out the CMOS battery, insert it again and format the whole system. It is a complex and time taking procedure. To open your laptop is not an easy task and even a slight mistake while opening it may affect the sensor of the touchpad and make it dead to use. If this problem would have occurred in your desktop, you can simple open your CPU cabinet and can find CMOS battery located on the motherboard. So desktop has many advantages that laptop can never have and in the same way laptop has many advantages that desktop can never have. Both have their own pros and cons. In fact laptop is today’s demand but you can find many people still going for desktop as its simple to use and easy to maintain. But if portability is the main concern for you, go for laptop or else for every other reason don’t forget that you have second option (Desktop) left.
How to Clean Different Parts of Printer
Published by dipti, on September 9th, 2011, in the categories: Maintenance

Just imagine that you have worked on something the whole night and decide to take its print out in the morning. How would you feel when you see the final print out of that work is filled with smudged prints? Even a small fault or obstruction in your printer may result in streaky pages and smudged prints.
It can be costly to take your printer for professional repair. A regular cleaning and maintenance regime can prevent common printer problems. You can do it on your own while sitting at home. Let’s see what basic things we should do before starting to clean different parts of the printer. Paper Towel, Cotton Swabs, Printer Oil, Window Cleaner and a pair of Gloves, are some things we will need to clean the printer.
Before discussing how to clean all the parts of the printer, let us know about its important part in brief
Print Head: This part of the printer causes maximum problems. Every time you refill the ink, try to change the head along with it. Some cartridges may include print head along with them while some ink does not have print head.
Stabilizer Bar: Stepper motor needs a belt in order to move print head. The main work of stabilizer bar is to make sure that everything thing is even and lined up.
Interface Ribbon: you can see this ribbon available behind the print head. Its main work is to tell the print cartridges what color to drop and where to drop.
Paper Feed Assembly: This part of the printer picks up and set the paper into the printer.
Before cleaning cartridges, check whether it has both print head and ink together. Mostly you will find both of them together so in order to clean it, fold paper towel to it’s fourth and add alcohol on one side of the folded paper towel. Wipe the bottom of the cartridge, in this way you can clean the cartridge. While taking print out, you will notice that printer has got a thin layer of ink inside. This layer can affect the oil present on the stabilizing bar, making it harder to move. So to make it work smoothly, oil this bar by putting dabs on the bar and drag the head of the bar manually in order to get the good coating of oil and make its movement smooth.
There are few things that one should remember before cleaning the printer. Wear your pair of gloves in order to avoid your hands getting in touch with ink. First make sure that the printer is switched off and unplugged, then take out the cartridges from the printer and put them aside. Fold the paper towel and clean the excess ink from the cartridges. In order to lubricate the metal bar of the printer, you can use some oil soaked in paper towel or cotton swab. Once you are sure that the dust has been removed from almost all the parts of the printer and the necessary parts are oiled properly, put all the parts to its original places.
If you know that cleaning the printer on your own is difficult for you, no need to test your skills in cleaning the parts of printer for the very first time. Contact your nearest printer store and take their help. Don’t soak complete towel in the oil instead just dip one side of towel in order to clean printer parts. Always remember “Excess of anything could be dangerous”.
Common Problems of Mainboard
Published by dipti, on August 30th, 2011, in the categories: Mainboards

Mainboard is the central printed circuit board in computers. It is an important part of the computer that provides connectors for other peripherals. Mainboard is used in computer in order to provide the electrical connection by which the other components of the system communicate. Mainboard is not like backplane as it can connect to CPU (Central Processing Unit) and host other subsystems and devices. Though mainboard is a crucial part of computer, however there are few common problems which may occur when you are using computer. If you have some doubts about simple and common problems of Mainboard then this article might help you. This article includes some few common problems of mainboard along with their solution.
Common Problems of Mainboard:
1. If you find that your mainboard is cracked, then you need to buy a new mainboard for your computer. Repairing a cracked mainboard is next to possible. Fortunately you can prevent your mainboard from getting cracked by ensuring that your mainboard has plenty of support to prevent flexing.
2. At times new Complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) setting doesn’t get saved. This usually happens when the battery of main board is under voltage. By changing the batteries, you can get your mainboard repaired. If the voltage problem still persists, then there is a chance that the mainboard circuit can go on the fritz and you may need to take it the professional. You may also face problem in the mainboard CMOS jumper. You may not able to save new CMOS data because of cleaning CMOS by mistake.
3. If you find a bent pin in your computer’s mainboards then you need to bend it back with pliers. If it broke down then you can’t do anything. All you can do to make your machine in use is to buy new main boards for it.
4. At times machine crashes when setting up CMOS because of poor heat dissipation in the mainboard. You can solve this problem by disabling the cache in the CMOS. Disabling caches in the CMOS can affect your internet speed so be prepare for it. If it is not the cache problem then you need to replace your CPU or mainboard in order to make machine work efficiently.
5. After installing mainboard drivers and restarting the computer, if your computer crashes or CD ROM reading slows down then you need to find out the latest motherboards driver and then reinstall it. It usually happens in inferior quality of motherboards, so make sure that the motherboard you are installing in your computer is of high quality. If the newly installed motherboard still failed then you need to reinstall your operating system to make your machine work efficiently.
You can follow the above mentioned tips to solve common problems of Mainboard. As we can’t discuss all problems of mainboard here, so we have discussed the most common ones.
Computer Storage Usage
Published by warepin, on August 30th, 2011, in the categories: Storage devices
Just like you can do certain activities in order to prolong the life of your computer battery, you can do some steps in order to prolong the use of the hard drive that you have inserted in your computer, no matter if we are speaking about a laptop computer or about a desktop. In fact, you can do this even with your smartphones and tablet computers, that have a hard drive or a solid-state drive. The internal memories of the tablet computers, which usually do not use a hard disk drive, can benefit of the same steps if you want to prolong the use of the internal memory.
I have discovered on the Internet several ways of maximizing your storage usage. Fortunately, many of the things that I have read in that article were familiar to me and I have used them before knowing that this is in fact a way of prolonging the use of my hard drive. I know that from time to time you have to clean your hard drive from unnecessary files and documents. In fact, if the operating system is set to announce you when you have unused icons on your desktop or if it is set to take to the garbage or in other words to the Recycle Bin of your computer the documents that you haven't accessed in 2 or 3 years let's say, you will benefit of the advantages of storing your information in a good way, simply by running that type of operating system. Some other systems require the user to take the final decision of deleting those documents that were not accessed in many years, but most of them delete them without announcing the user.

Nevertheless, when you click on deleting the files or documents that you haven't accessed in years, you can see what are those files and documents and you can even open them to see what is their content. Also, when you want to store files it would be preferable not to create thousands of folders where you will store only one Word file. When you want to access something quickly, it is true, you can create a shortcut of that document directly on the desktop, but would not be better to create a folder where you can store your personal and most important information, folder that can be accessed in 2 or 3 moves?

Another way to benefit of your hard drive for a long time would be to take good care of your computer and not to use it in locations with extreme temperatures or where it is very much dust. The high humidity and the dusty locations are the deadliest enemies of the electronics. From time to time, just like you clean your hard drive from unnecessary files, it would be good to clean your computer from dust. Don't do this by yourself, because you can touch some important electronic circuits that are not supposed to be touched, but instead see a specialist.
