Motorola’s Xoom is the world’s first devices to rock Google’s honeycomb OS. The Xoom tablet comes with Android 3.1 which is a lot smoother and faster than the 3.0 version. The tablet has an aluminum frame which makes up for most of the body. It is smooth and does not attract finger prints.

The Xoom whooshes to the crest of the tablet class in overall style and design. The build of this tablet is solid and stylish. Xoom comes with accessible buttons such as the volume and power buttons that are easy to press. It also has a robustly constructed SIM slot that duals as the MicroSD Card slot cover. It has a smooth, rubberized feel at the top and metal at the bottom when held horizontally.

Motorola’s Xoom comes with a large 10.1 inch screen and higher resolution of 1280 X 800 pixel resolution. The widescreen 16:10 aspect ratio makes it perfect to watch videos. Motorola Xoom is powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 2 CPU which runs at 1GHz, 1GB RAM and dual core 1 GHz processor. It has a 32 GB internal memory which is the same for both the 3G and WiFi models.

It has a very basic video player that supports only MP4 and WMV formats. It supports some codecs such as H.264 and H.263. The music player in Xoom is also very basic with no equalizer presets or enhancement options. The supported music file formats include MP3, WMA, WAV and AAC+. Sound quality isn’t that great so if you’re looking for great sound quality then this isn’t for you.

The tab comes with a 5 megapixel auto-focus camera and is capable of 720p video recording at 30 fps. The picture quality is just average for indoor shoots while it fares better outdoors. The dual-LED flash is powerful and easily illuminates the subject in a very dark room provided you keep a distance of five to six feet from the subject. The quality of the image captured is quite clear with a good amount of detail. The 720 p video recording is smooth for most part but while panning you can see some small jerks.

In terms of connectivity, the 3G model supports quad band GSM and HSDPA, HSUPA, dual bad Wi-Fi n and Bluetooth v2.1. The 3G SI can only be used for data since the Xoom does not have any telephony functions. The tablet comes with a default browser called WebKit and is pretty ok for casual web surfing as it supports tabs, full Flash 10.1 support etc.

The cost of this tab is slightly higher than its competitor - the Samsung Galaxy Tab 750. Both the tabs have similar feature sets except for the fact that the internal memory in the Samsung Galaxy tab is only 16 GB as compared to the 32 GB of Motorola’s Xoom. Motorola Xoom does not come with any customizations and hence out of the box, the Xoom’s feature set is pretty limited until you install apps. Overall, the performance of Motorola’s Xoom is quite impressive.
