I know the topic is not very interesting but it is essential to know what you have in your computer in order to be able to understand how it works. The computer has various components, each of them being essential for the computer. You can compare them to the human organs, the computer being the equivalent of the human body. It sounds kind of strange but this is one great way of understanding the components better and faster.

The motherboard is the central printed circuit board and it has the task of facilitating the communication between all the components of the computer. One of the most important components of the computer which is located on the motherboard is the processor. This is the brain of the computer as it processes and manages information. It tells the rest of the system what to do, without it the other components would not be able to do their tasks. The processor, or the CPU, or Central Processing Unit is the central part of the computer hardware.

Another extremely important component of the computer is the RAM, or the Random Access memory. The RAM stores and processes the memory that the computer uses. If I would use the analogy mentioned before, the RAM can be the equivalent of the hands which carry all the information that you use. The more RAM your computer has the more information you can use at once. There are various types of RAM which can be used on various types of computers.

The hard disk drive is another useful component of the computer. It is somewhat similar to the RAM in the sense that it stores memory. The hard drive is non-volatile which means that the information remains on it permanently until it is deleted by the user. In the case of the RAM the memory will be deleted when the computer is shut down. The size of the hard drive dictates the amount of information the computer is able to store. The hard drive contains all the information including the software programs. There are numerous types of hard drives, each with their own pros and cons.

The graphics card is the component which provides the information to the screen which can be LCD or CTR. The graphics card is very important especially for the gamers because the better the graphics card is the better the games will play. There are various components as well, from the CD/DVD drives to the USB, FireWire, and Ethernet ports. The truth is that all these components are very important in order for the computer to function properly.
