How to Choose PC Case

Published by dipti, on June 9th, 2011, in the categories: PC cases

Before working on choosing computer case it should be clear that how much money you can spend on its purchase. If you want to save money then I am sure that you will not be able to grab a good quality computer case. If you buy some decent case, then you it will last for long time. Always remember that good quality computer case determines several things about your system and it also gives good look to your PC. An important thing in selecting computer case it that, there should be enough space inside the case so that the motherboard and all other component can be set very easily.

The first important factor in selecting PC Case is its external space. Have you placed it on a tight, crammed desk? So if you don’t have space problem, then you can go for tower PC cases and if you are short of external space, then you should go for mini PC case. Mini PC Cases are getting popular as they need very less space.

Another point on which we should focus is internal space, which means how many components you can fit inside your PC case. If you are among those who want to have everything to be present inside PC, then internal space of case should matter a lot to you. Motherboard, couple of hard drives, LAN card, DVD drive etc are some of the basic components that every one would like to see inside PC case. In this situation also I will suggest you to go for tower PC case. Always check that your motherboard fits inside the case comfortably. There are many cases that supports AT, ATX, Baby-AT boards but beware of cheaper ATX cases as they don’t really fit ATX motherboards. Most PC cases come with power supply unit as increase in the number of component in case will definitely be requiring more power to supply to them. So at least go for 500w power supply and make sure that unit is ATX2.01 if you want to avoid motherboard issues.

More number of components inside the case will definitely rise inside temperature, so it’s better to add couple of fans in to case to cool the system. Good PC case can have 4 cooling fan in order to ensure good ventilation inside PC case. At the time of choosing computer case make sure that it has enough space for the components that you are going to install in it. If you want to have 2 CD drives inside PC case then go for case that has the capacity of installing 3 CD drives. Always prefer for those cases that may have some extra space so that if you want to increase any particular component in near future, you can do that precisely.

Last thing while choosing PC case is what you want the case to look like. Do you want black or white case, plain case or fancy? Since the market has a huge range of cases available in every shape, size, color, style in order to satisfy its buyer. You can see most of PC cases have USB ports and headset jack at front of the case. These are very useful as you do not need to plug in pen drive of headset jack at the back of the case every time. You can simply plug them at the front very easily.

What PC Case to choose completely depends on your choice and requirements. There are a number of options available in market and you will not be disappointed for sure.

NZXT Whisper

Published by Bogdan Alex, on August 28th, 2008, in the categories: PC cases

Are gamers really requesting more improved PC chasses since AMD/ATI introduced the Radeon HD 4870X2 graphics cards? I don’t know, but it looks like NZXT has done some market studies and came to the conclusion that there is a great demand for efficient PC chasses. Not that they don’t have a wide array of chasses already, but NZXT already announces another addition to their high-end lineup.

Fudzilla informs that the new NZXT Whisper comes in a full tower case design. The case is specifically built for those of you who like to keep things quiet and cool at the same time. In this sense, the case is equipped with 10mm noise dampening foam pads pre-fitted to the case sides and top panel, as well as rubber grommets for the HDDs and a padded PSU holder. I’d say this setup should be enough to reduce noise under 40 db.

On the cooling side, we find out that the new Whisper case integrates four fans: one 120mm blue LED intake, one 120mm rear exhaust and two 80mm rear exhaust fans.

Since the Whisper is a full tower case, you’ll find enough room to connect up to nine hard drives, plus you get a total of six 5.25 inch bays. NZXT didn’t forget about the air flow issues and provided a cable management system consisting of holes that can be use to hide most of the cables. In case you are planning to transform you rig into a LAN party system, do note that the Whisper is made from steel and it has a plastic door on the front, so you might have to work out a bit more to move the chassis around.

This time we know the Whisper comes in September and should retail for $139.99.

Cooler Master HAF 932

Published by Bogdan Alex, on August 21st, 2008, in the categories: PC cases

If you really want to build a CrossfireX configuration with Radeon HD 4870X2 cards, than you have to consider replacing your PC case. Not that th cards are quite long and might not fit the case, but they sure require a powerful PSU and as many case fans as you can get, since the GPU cores work best at 90 degrees Celsius. Why not go for a full-tower case? From Cooler Master, that is.

We know Cooler Master has some top cooling solutions, however its high-end products are sometimes outperformed by competitors. With the new HAF 932 case, Cooler Master hopes it can regain supremacy on high-end PC case market, and the features included in the new case show that those hopes aren’t in vain at all.

Many PC cases tend to forget about the airflow aspect, but for the new HAF 932, the airflow issue is top priority. Fudzilla informs that, In order to maximize the airflow, Cooler Master has decided to include steel meshed vents which are vertically stretched over the whole front panel. These meshed panels are fitted with some of the biggest fans I’ve seen on a case - three massive 230mm fans on the top, the side and the front of the chassis.

Cooler Master claims that the HAF 932 is capable of maintaining low temperatures in any hardware configuration you might imagine. Moreover, if air cooling seems a bit too outdated and inefficient (noisy maybe?) for you, HAF 932 can also be upgraded for water cooling by adding an internal radiator and routing the kit through the pre-drilled holes on the rear.

Other outstanding features include logical cable routing for improved airflow, support for four 200mm/120mm fans on the side panel, enough room for a dual power supply configuration, removable HDD racks, easily accessible liquid coolant fill port and many others which will be revealed by launch time. That’s when we’ll find out about the price, as well.

Scythe Innovator

Published by Bogdan Alex, on August 4th, 2008, in the categories: PC cases

Scythe is known for some pretty good CPU coolers, although these might not be the best one can buy. The Asian company has recently entered the PC case market and their latest Innovator model seems to point out that Scythe could further diversify its line of products.

The Innovator is quite massive, measuring 605x550x208mm (HxDxW). I comes standard with enough room for two ATX power supplies. The innovation here is a special cable that powers the secondary PSU at the same time as you power on the system.

According to Fudzilla, the case is made of steel, so it should provide enough cooling potential, but Scythe thought it would be a good idea to fit a plastic front door to it that hides the six 5.25-inch drive bays. In addition, the Innovator supports two 3.5-inch drive bays and six internal 3.5-inch drive bays. Also in front, users can find four USB 2.0 ports, one FireWire port and a headphone and mic jack.

More features include rubber coated thumb screws for better grip and reduced vibrations, a bunch of extra long thumb screws for add-on cards, especially for graphics cards.

Weighing 14.8kg, it certainly appears to be server-oriented. It is already available in Japan for about €78, but Scythe didn’t mention anything about world-wide availability.

NZXT Guardian 921

Published by Bogdan Alex, on July 26th, 2008, in the categories: PC cases

I own a pretty good Chieftech PC case, but I think it’s time I changed it with some new, gaming and modding oriented one. There are many case makers out there, and one of the newer companies that entered this market is known as NZXT. The guys over at NZXT seem to be offering solid cases which have a cool design, as well as some useful features. Right now I’m tempted to give the new Guardian 921 a try.

Guardian 921 is the latest gaming rig chassis for PC fans coming from NZXT. The case itself seems to have already been modded and takes a place in the NZXT Crafted Series line. There’s enough room to stuff this case with quad-SLI configurations and up to four hard drives.

The case is built from 0.8mm and 1mm steel. Other features of the case include built-in temperature monitoring and silent cooling with three 120mm fans included. Guardian 921 has eSATA, HD audio, mic and dual USB ports on the front.

“With the Guardian 921, we’ve reached an optimal balance of pricing and performance” said Johnny Hou, Chief Designer at NZXT. “This chassis is perfect for the PC Gamer/enthusiast who’s looking for a phenomenal building block for their new rig without breaking the bank.”

The new case is expected to retail this month for $89.99.
